Prevention Programs for Youth and Adolescents

To schedule a program, contact Brian Dodyk at (216) 619-6194 x115 or briand@clevelandrcc.org.

It is never too early to educate children and young adults about the effects their words and actions have on others and what they should do if someone is hurting them.  Many of these programs are available for co-ed school classrooms, but are also appropriate for after-school environments, faith-based settings and for athletic teams.

Programs are age appropriate, interactive and tailored to your group’s needs. Presentations are free, although honorariums are accepted.

Teenagers and Sexual Violence: A Prevention Curriculum for Grades 9-12

The goal of this school-based program is to increase knowledge, positively change attitudes and beliefs and strengthen students’ skills to prevent sexual violence before it happens. Each of the five sessions lasts approximately 45 minutes and can be hosted on five consecutive days or spread over the course of weeks or months.  The five lessons are as follows:

  • The Realities of Sexual Violence – To increase students’ knowledge about sexual violence.
  • Understanding Ohio Law and Sexual Consent – A scenario-based discussion used to increase students’ ability to differentiate between sexual assault, coercion and consent.
  • Exploring Attitudes about Dating Violence – To change students’ attitudes that support sexual and intimate partner violence and increase their likelihood to intervene in unhealthy relationships.
  • The Impact of Stereotypes on Relationships – To facilitate healthy dialogue between male and female adolescents and increase understanding about how stereotypes and social factors contribute to sexual and intimate partner violence.
  • Taking Action to Prevent Sexual Violence: Exploring Bystander Intervention – To strengthen students’ skills to intervene safely in unhealthy situations and relationships.

Building Healthy Relationships for Grades 6-8

The goal of this three-session program is to increase knowledge about sexual harassment, sexual violence and the characteristics of a healthy relationship.  Each session lasts 45 minutes and can be hosted over three consecutive days or over the course of several weeks or months.

Three Kinds of Touches for K-2nd Grade

This program is designed to teach students in a classroom setting about different kinds of touches: safe touches, ouch touches and uh-oh touches.  Students learn what to do if someone touches them in their parts covered by a bathing suit.  The presenter makes three visits to classrooms to read a story.  Each student names one trusted adult they could talk to about “uh-oh touches,” if needed.
