Teenagers Wanted for Cleveland Rape Crisis Center Youth Programming Board

“Youth 360” Members Can Get Paid to Educate Peers about Violence

Teenagers, ages 14-16 who live in Cuyahoga County, can now apply for Youth 360, a new program launched by Cleveland Rape Crisis Center to engage young people in the Center’s efforts to prevent gender-based violence.

Twelve teenagers will be selected from a pool of applicants to participate in the youth programming board, which will meet for monthly leadership trainings and activities throughout the 2010-11 school year.  All twelve participants will receive a $100 monthly stipend for meeting the program’s participation requirements.

“Young people are looking for ways to be change agents in their schools and communities,” said Alex Leslie, Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s prevention specialist. “Youth 360 is a structured leadership development program where young people can learn more about gender-based violence and how to be effective community activists. At the same time, they will develop leadership skills and get paid a stipend for their participation.”

During the school year, mentors will help the participants each develop a unique project that educates their school or neighborhood about topics, such as dating violence or sexual violence.

Interested candidates must return an application by Friday, September 10.

Participants do not need any prior experience or education to apply, but they must identify an adult mentor who will assist them throughout the year with program requirements. Selections will be made by September 30th

The first program is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 15-16. Click here for an application.
