Position:
Face To Face Advocacy Intern

Reports to: Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and Advocacy Coordinator

Position Summary: The Face To Face Advocacy Intern assists with all aspects of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s Advocacy Program. The Face To Face Advocacy Intern assists with direct service for sexual assault survivors in hospitals and within the criminal justice system as well as assists with professional trainings in the community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend and successfully complete Direct Service Volunteer Training

  • Shadow and assist Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and Advocacy Coordinator with face to face advocacy for clients, when appropriate

  • Assist Professional Training and Outreach Director with training, presentations and outreach efforts in Cuyahoga County

  • In collaboration with the Manager of Education Services, assist with community presentations regarding rape awareness and prevention

  • Research, update, and document relevant statistics of rape, sexual assault, etc.

  • With Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and Advocacy Coordinator, attend scheduled meetings with other county and community agencies

  • Assist with Face To Face Advocacy program statistics

  • Provide coverage of the business telephone line and/or 24-hour hotline when necessary

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and team meetings

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy

  • Engage in an exit interview with Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and Internship Coordinator to give and receive feedback regarding experience as an intern

Qualifications:

  • Coursework in criminal justice or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet a must

Position: Prevention Education Internship

Reports to: Manager of Education Services

Position Summary: The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s community educators provide educational programming to create critical awareness on the issue of sexual assault and reduce the risk and incidence of this crime to community members. Through prevention education, we are also able to reduce the stigma associated with sexual assault and expand the community’s understanding of living in a rape culture.
 

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in and successfully complete Direct Service Volunteer Training

  • Research various topics as they relate to sexual violence

  • Create and maintain database of present and future community organizations who receive prevention education programming

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement outreach events

  • Provide prevention education programming in schools, social service agencies, churches, and other community sites

  • Assist in grassroots coalition building and collaborations with other community agencies

  • Provide coverage of the business telephone line and/or 24-hour hotline when necessary

  • Attend and participate in agency staff meetings and team meetings

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Education Services, including administrative support

  • Engage in an exit interview with Manager of Education Services and Internship Coordinator to give and receive feedback regarding experience as an intern

Qualifications:

Position: Development/Communications Intern

Reports to: Director of Development

Position Summary: The Development/Communications Intern assists with all aspects of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s Resource Development Program. The Resource Development Program is responsible for raising funds and promoting the agency throughout the community.
 

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with development communications, bulk mailings, and a variety of related duties

  • Assist with meeting the overall goals of the CRCC’s yearly marketing and public relations plan

  • Help coordinate benefits/events: responsibilities related to an event include assisting with securing donations, event public relations, and food and beverage coordination

  • Identify public relations opportunities based upon CRCC’s current programs, write related press releases and follow-up with appropriate media

  • Help create marketing, public relations and media files and databases within the Resource Development office

  • Assist with copy development for flyers, fact sheets, brochures, the CRCC website and other publications as needed

  • Coordinate, layout, and edit the CRCC newsletter, The Nightingale

  • Develop press kits and information packets for media and other constituents

  • Research potential funders

  • Perform donor database maintenance

  • Other office and administrative duties as related to Resource Development Program: fund raising, public relations, communication, and special events as needed.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Development, including administrative support

Qualifications:

  • Coursework in Communications, Journalism, Social Work, Public Relations, Marketing, English, Business or related field

Position: Public Policy Intern

Reports to: Director of Public Policy and Advocacy

Position Summary: The Public Policy Intern assists the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy in all aspects of Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s public policy work. The Public Policy Intern is integral to the development of the CRCC’s policy agenda. The Public Policy Intern provides administrative assistance for committee meetings and coordination; sets up and maintains a database of supporters, elected officials and the media, as well as files on legislative activity; maintains internal systems for monitoring policy debates and legislative activity and informing supporters of action on CRCC’s issues; assists in coordinating all training and events related to public policy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Legislative research: Conduct research on various topics, including sexual assault survivor rights, public policy, and political structure

  • Correspondence: Research, write and disseminate letters to legislators

  •  Local meeting monitoring: Attend local government, health & human services coalition meetings

  • Event planning: Planning and coordinating logistics for various events involving SART, CRCC Board, government officials and community coalitions

  • Database development and maintenance: Develop and maintain legislator contact list and new article database

  • Outreach: Plan, coordinate and implement community outreach events; assist with CRCC advocacy programs

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy

Qualifications:

Position: Volunteer Programs Intern

Reports to: Manager of Volunteer Programs

Position Summary: The Volunteer Program Intern works collaboratively with the Manager of Volunteer Programs to recruit, train, retain and recognize CRCC volunteers; will also assist in the coordination, management and maintenance of the CRCC’s 24-hour services. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend and successfully complete Direct Service Volunteer Training

  • Assist with the recruitment of volunteers and work to grow and expand volunteer base

  • Participate in and assist with volunteer trainings

  • Create, strengthen and maintain volunteer recognition events and programs

  • Assist with the daily functioning of the Hotline and Face to Face Advocacy Programs

  • Provide coverage of the 24-Hour Hotline and Face to Face Advocacy Programs when appropriate

  • Maintain resources and materials for volunteers

  • Maintain statistics and analyze data for volunteer programs

  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Volunteer Programs, Advocacy Coordinator and other staff

Qualifications:

  • Coursework in any of the following majors: Psychology, Women’s Studies, Political Science, Social Work, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English and other relevant majors

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and the Internet a must

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Must be a creative self-starter

  • Comfortable working with staff, other interns, current volunteers and potential volunteers

Position:  Graduate Social Work Intern

Reports to: Assigned staff member from the Therapeutic Services Team and Director of Client and Clinical Services

Position Summary: The Graduate Social Work Intern works as part of the Therapeutic Services Team and has the opportunity to provide direct service/therapy to the following clients: child, adolescent and adult survivors of rape, incest, or other sexual assaults; secondary survivors (family members, guardians, friends, loved ones, etc.) of survivors of sexual assault; and survivors in support groups. Our philosophy is that survivors of sexual violence are victims of a crime and therefore are not “mentally ill”. They are reacting “normally” to a very abnormal situation. We use an empowerment model as we work with survivors so they may regain, or gain, a sense of personal power. We give survivors choices to take back control of their lives.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in and successfully complete Direct Service Volunteer Training

  • Provide face to face individual therapy (need to be available for appointments at least one evening per week and at least ½ of your scheduled hours should be client contact hours)

  • Cover 24-hour hotline (at least 2 hours on the hotline each week)

  • Observe a community education presentation

  • Observe a face to face advocacy in-service/training

  • Attend an Open Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting

  • Attend Therapeutic Services Team meetings

  • Facilitate at least one Therapeutic Services Team meeting

  • Present case study/topic discussion during a Therapeutic Services Team meeting

  • Attend a community meeting, conference or workshop

  • Participate in the Girls Kick Butt! Conference as a co-facilitator

  • Provide coverage of the business telephone line and/or 24-hour hotline when necessary

  • Attend and participate in agency staff meetings

  • Engage in an exit interview with the Graduate Internship Coordinator and Therapeutic Services Team supervisor to give and receive feedback regarding your experience as an intern

  • Accompany an advocate on a face to face advocacy call (optional)

  • Tour the Justice Center, observe a trial, and/or attend a parole board hearing accompanied by a face to face advocate (optional)

  • Observe a face to face advocacy intake meeting with prior approval from the client (optional)

  • Provide face to face advocacy; requires 8 hours of additional volunteer training (optional)

  • Co-facilitate a support group with another professional staff member; only available after attending and successfully completing CRCC Group Facilitator Training (optional)
