CLEVELAND STATISTICS ON SEXUAL ASSAULT
- 1,600 sex crime reports and an additional 1,100 referrals from the Department of Family and Children Services were received by the Cleveland Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit *
- County Prosecutor's Major Trial Unit prosecuted 767 rape and homicide cases. Nearly 50% (393) were sexual assault cases and only 100 of them were tried in court.
- Hillcrest SANE Unit treated 47 patients for sexual assault
- Fairview SANE Unit treated 67 patients for sexual assault
- Bedford SANE Unit treated 28 patients for sexual assault (closed 12/04)

- 1 in 3 women is sexually assaulted *
- 1 in 6 men is sexually assaulted
- Less than 5% of sexual assaults reported to the police are false (FBI)
- 61% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police
- In 80% of rape cases, the victim knew the perpetrator
- 90% of acquaintance rapes involve alcohol
- 80% of first time violent sexual offenders commit the same crimes again once released from prison
