The Stories We Tell Writing Workshop
Date: April 14, 2012
Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Location: Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, 526 Superior Avenue, Suite 1400 in Downtown Cleveland
"The Stories We Tell" is a two-day writing workshop for survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence and trafficking.
Every survivor story has power and purpose. During “The Stories We Tell” survivors will read and discuss testimonial writing, reflect on how to share their own stories, and engage in a series of innovative writing exercises.
With a focus on memoir, fiction, non-fiction and poetry, “The Stories We Tell” was created to support those who seek to use writing as a vehicle for personal or political change.
Workshop creator and instructor R. Clifton Spargo is an award-winning fiction writer whose stories have appeared in The Kenyon Review, The Antioch Review, and Glimmer Train, among other venues. An Arts Fellow at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, he is the author or editor of several books on the Holocaust, ethics, and modern literature and culture.
Workshop facilitator Anne Ream’s essays and opinion pieces have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times and numerous other publications. She is a past finalist for the Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Documentary Prize and the founder of The Voices and Faces Project.
"The Stories We Tell" workshop will be held at Cleveland Rape Crisis Center on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15. The cost is $500 and scholarships are available. For details, scholarship information and to apply, contact Kirsti at kirstim@clevelandrcc.org by February 14, 2012.
